About Me

Among my childhood possessions are two small black & white photos.  One is of a traveling photographer, the kind that went door-to-door in the early 1960s to photograph babies and children.  The other is of me at about age four.  Both were taken the same day in our front yard of my home in Southern Illinois.

On the back of the photographer's photo my mother wrote: "Denise refused to allow the photographer to take her picture until he allowed her to take his."

When I refused to cooperate, my mom got our family camera, let me frame the shot using the pop-up viewfiender and press the shutter. Satisfied, I allowed the photographer to set his camera up.

My First Photo

The photo I shot at age four of the traveling photographer in front of my childhood home in Wood River, Illinois.

Me Then

This is the photo I allowed the photographer to take of me.  Notice I'm saying something...no doubt trying to tell him what settings and composition he should use.

Me Now

Today, I'm a freelance photographer based in the NYC/NJ area. Also, I am proud to be a Getty Images Artist and Alamy Contributor.

Here I am with my own daughter. Interesting how my hairstyle hasn't changed much in five decades.
